    Car insurance

In Luxembourg, only civil liability car insurance is compulsory for all drivers. Nevertheless, for more comprehensive protection for your vehicle, you can choose Casco insurance (All-Risk), known as “Tout-risque” insurance in France and “Omnium” in Belgium.  Offering a higher level of insurance, this extended cover against damage to your vehicle is included in the Performance formula of easyPROTECT Auto, providing you with outstanding protection for your vehicle and even your luggage, if you wish.

The driver is the only person who is never protected by their own Civil Liability Car Insurance. This means they must take out supplementary cover to receive financial aid in the event of an accident. Our insurance policies for drivers guarantee optimum protection, meaning you can drive with complete peace of mind.

It is also handy to know that the bonus-malus system in Luxembourg is divided into two parts: one for civil liability and the other for material damage. With the easyPROTECT Auto Performance formula, in the event of material damage only, your malus will remain unchanged and the damage to your vehicle will be covered without any impact on your premium. And with the Comfort formula, you are entitled to a joker: if you have not had a Casco claim for 3 years, your material damage premium will not increase at the time of the first Casco claim.

    Home insurance

Although it is not compulsory, home insurance is strongly recommended. Note that the majority of owners will request it in order to cover material damage to the home while rented. As a tenant or an owner, this insurance provides a variety of options to insure much more than just your furniture, thus providing comprehensive protection for your home. Some insurance covers can even protect your travels, your bike or your solar panels, like easyPROTECT Home.

It is important to note that family liability insurance is not always included in home insurance like it is in France, so think about taking it out when you talk to your agent.

    Useful complementary insurance policies

To supplement refunds for health care that is only partially covered or not covered at all by the National Health Fund (CNS), you can opt for complementary health insurance, covering hospital stays, eye and dental treatment as well as medical expenses incurred abroad.

If you’d like to optimise your future retirement income or protect your loved ones in the event of your death, then taking out a life insurance policy is a good option. The majority of these insurance policies are tax-deductible, meaning you can make tax savings each year.

    Good to know

Some insurance contributions and premiums are tax-deductible, up to the limits established by the law. This is applicable particularly to insurance premiums used to cover a person or their civil liability: civil liability vehicle insurance, civil liability home insurance, life insurance, insurance in the event of death, accident insurance, health insurance, retirement plan, etc. Find out how to pay less taxes while being at best insured.
